ACEs 2.0: Hope in Caring for and Educating Children Affected by Trauma
Description
This training is intended to be the second in a series of informational trainings about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The first training introduces providers to the research behind ACEs, and solidifies the understanding through the participation in the Brain Architecture Game. This second training provides: 1) refresher of what ACEs is and how it affects children and families, 2) current research-based practices for using Protective Factors effectively with parents and children, 3) Activity on affirmation and positive messages from significant adults. 4) introduce the “5 Gestures that Change Minds”, 5) Activity - filling out ACEs questionnaire and Resilience questionnaire for small group discussion on how Protective Factors and 5 Gestures that Change Minds can affect the impact of ACEs on children. 6) provide multiple research citations, learning/study modules, and video resources to continue learning about ACEs and how early childhood educators can affect real change in children’s lives.
